Newbie- unknown Luger

Greetings to All,

I am a newbie to Lugers, and I would like to

buy a shooter/collector. I found one I like

but don't know what I'm buying. Can anyone

offer any ideas as to what I have?

This Luger has a large five pointed star

on the frame over the chamber. The star is

the size of a quarter. There are some proof

marks and a date of 1919. It is chambered in

30 cal. and in nice shape to my inexperienced

eye. I think it is re-worked. Any thoughts

are appricated.

Bill

My only observation would be that if you are planning to do a lot of shooting, it would probably over the long haul be a lot easier (and cheaper) to get a Luger which shoots 9mm, as that cartridge is probably the most common one in the world, except for the .22. I have no idea what the star represents, but I am sure that someone else here does.

Bill ;

Look in the left collumn, under the arty ,you will find various features of this forum .

Click on "Technical Information", then find "Logo 4",

there you will find what seems to be what you describe.

It appears that you have a South American Contract Luger.

Others on this forum can supply much more information than I , You can dig around the forum site and find quite a lot of information.

Welcom to the Luger Forum where it is often said that The only dumb question is the one that you never ask .

Dear Guest... Welcome & Please join us... we don't bite

IT appears that you may have a not-so-common variation of the Luger. You will find identification sheets in the Technical Information link to your left. When you have determined all the markings for this Luger you desire to buy, report them here and one of us will be able to give you our best guess about it's identification and value.

If you have scans or photographs of the pistol in question, they would be helpful in the identification process...
