Breech Block with Strange, Extra Hole
Recently bought a Finnish Luger with a hole drilled just underneath the front of the firing pin.
http://forum.lugerforum.com/lfupload..._with_hole.jpg I suspect this was drilled to release pressure for the same reasons that firing pins were later fluted. Does anyone know if this was common practice in Finland, or could this just be the work of a garage gunsmith? Thanks, Luke |
I don't believe this was a common practice Luke, but I agree with your reasoning and it seems to be a practical "enhancement" for a shooter...
I can't see a structural problem iwht a hole this small in the area where it is located. It looks like it would make the firing pin recess in the breechbolt easier to clean as well. Just my $0.02 http://forum.lugerforum.com/lfupload/twocents.jpg |
John -
A member of Jan Still's forum was kind enough to confirm that this was a common modification to Finnish Lugers. He stated that this modification was made for the reason postulated in my first post. Luke |
Luke, I concur with the above. I have seen this same modification on several Finnish lugers. TH

Mystery solved.
Thanks, Tom. Best Regards, Luke |
