Cabellas' Luger Offerings...

Quite a few lugers on the Cabella web site :

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...rarchyId=11647

Cannot be sure from the 1-2 photos per each luger, but many look reworked...IMHO...

I do not think the '42 Banner "Mouser" luger should have strawed parts...???

Having said that...the 1916-dated M1914 Navy looks promising...

Hello Pete,

Could be a Commercial Banner 42 dated. Those had strawed parts & late ones had plastic grips. Some were contract made for Sweden & Switzerland. SN suffix could tell a bit more

In any case, those are not frequently encountered........and this one looks nice !!

Pete,

I agree with you, many look reworked. The straw looks too good on the 42 banner. I wonder what the serial number is?

The arty ("DWM 07") that has already sold looks OK to me in photos but the rest look suspicious. Grip wear on some does not correspond with straw and blue. Notice the unusual front sights on the 1918 Erfurt and the other arty for sale. The Erfurt sight has a step like an M1900 and the arty sight is shaped like a pyramid. KFS

I have seen a few Lugers at Cabelas here in Michigan and they all seemed to have been redone and there weren't any bargains there. I mentioned to the sales people that I had a few Lugers that I might consider selling and they got real excited. I don't think that these boys see many of the real good Lugers. If they do, then the staff buys them. But I don't think that I would sell through Cabelas. I could make more money selling someplace else. Why pull in a needless middleman?

Hi Norm,

I noticed these particular luger are being sold in a MN store at Cabellas...

Maybe folks in the midwest that cannot sell such pieces, themselves, are now having Cabellas do consignment sales...

Bad 1916 Navy

My heart sank when I opened the package. The blueing of the barrel and frame didn't match, no halos around the numbers, and the proofs looked new. The 1916 looked too fresh and deep, the side plate was over polished-no sharp edges on the raised part. The firing pin was also strange. I had Keith take a look at it and he agreed that it was not a desirable gun. It a shame someone had to screw this up. The story goes; This came from a collection of 675 lugers in the midwest, Cabelas purchased 75 at this time. If it wouldn't have been for this forum and what I have learned hear, it didn't look that bad! I can't fault Cabelas, they helped out as much as they could, but admitted to knowing little about lugers. So with a 3 day inspection--they will have it back in the morning. Oh well--more money for the SOS and National Gun Day. See you there! Frank H.

Hey Frank H.,

Glad to hear the Cabellas folks have the no-questions asked 3-day return policy...

Did you happen to notice the size of the rear toggle pin flange on this 1916 Navy ?

See you at the SOS...let's plan dinner ! Tom Beasley will be there as well...and the Navy Cabal guys as well...should have a nice LF dinner group...

Another Cabellas offering that looks very odd is the 1920's long barrel...I am not an expert...but would not expect a carbine to have three (3) sights as this one does...the front sight, the rear carbine sight, and the other rear sight on the rear toggle link...

Maybe Waffenfabrik-USA is having trouble selling lugers and is now trying to use legit outfits to do consignment sales...???

Noticed the 1920 carbine the folks at Simspons LTD are selling only has two (2) sights...the rear toggle link is absent the v-notch sight...

1916 Navy

It was thin and when put in place it came out the other side. I get in Thursday at 11:15 p.m. I'll see you there. Derek said bring good walking shoes and MONEY!

It might help the folks at this MN-State Cabelas shop to hear from some of the members at the Luger Forum about the lugers they have offered on their web site. I am convinced the good folks at Cabelas would not knowingly sell such "not right" lugers at high retail prices if they knew better.

If they hear enough from us here on the Forum and get enough returned lugers during their inspection period, they may decide to no longer handle sales of such "not right" lugers in the future. Would hate to think that the colletion of 675 other lugers hits their store...if these first offerings are a typical example of guns to come...

Does anyone know if Cabela's will ship to a C&R?

Frank H 03-04-2005 11:33 AM

Yes, and no trouble with returns.
