1911 Erfurt 100R.M.G.2.

Good Day All,

Help :)
Am looking at a nice 1911 Erfurt with Regimental Marking
100.R.M.G.2.
Can you guys help with where this was issued?

Thank You

The 100th Regiment was a Saxon unit garrisoned in Dresden.

I believe that the scroll R indicates a reserve unit.

The 1913 may have a factory hold open and a stock lug depending upon when it was made in 1913. The earlier ones had neither or possibly a factory hold open and no stock lug. The hold open was mandated in a May, 1913, directive while the stock lug was mandated in an August, 1913 directive. Thus I think it possible for a 1913 to have the factory hold open but no stock lug... but that is speculation on my part. I would think that if any were produced that way, they would be very few in number.

Basically I'm saying that the 1913 Lugers could possibly be found in the following configurations:

1. No factory hold open or stock lug
2. Factory hold open but no stock lug
3. Factory hold open and stock lug
4. Early 1913 Luger without factory hold open modified by the Erfurt Rifle Arsenal to have a hold open and new front sight

The only one I'm not certain of is number 2

The 1913 does not hold open and has no stock lug
I did not break it down to see if it just has a broken spring

The 1911 does hold open

The 1911 does hold open

The 1911 was manufactured without a hold open. Many early Lugers made that way were later modified at the Royal Erfurt Rifle Arsenal (factory) to have a hold open. If you look on the right side just behind and above the trigger, you'll see a pin sticking through with a small crown over a letter stamped under it. That shows that the hold open was added after original manufacture. At the same time, the front sight was replaced to bring zero to 50 meters. Early Lugers were zeroed between 80 & 110 meters.

If the 1913 doesn't have a hold open, it was made early that year. Some units didn't return their Lugers to have the hold open added. The picture below shows a hold open and if you pull the action open on the 1913, you will be able to see if it has one or not.

The two German states whose early Lugers were not always retrofitted were the Bavarians and the Württemberg(ische) ones if I remember correctly. I believe Baden was also grouped with Württemberg in the army units as well but I think they mostly had the retrofits done.

Cool Info on the Hold Open
Thank You

Added a few extra pics I had taken
Looking at the 1913 looks like it did not have the Hold Open or Mod

Now heres the hard part for me it's probably in my best interest to pass on these right now

But it would not be fair, as they are both kind of rare to not pass this on in case one of you wants to give them a good home

Almost forgot they also have a very nice DWM Comercial in .30 if someone is looking for a shooter

Sound Load in Everett Wa 425-252-2222
They are a really good people and they do ship

As always thank you all for your help and comments
and we shall see what comes up next time :)
