Swiss Waffenfabrik Bern 9mm Para Test P06/29 Luger
 

Found on Gun Broker, interesting variation on Swiss Bern 06/29 in 9mm no less. Looks like they want about 10x the price of a typical 06/29.

I would be very careful and do my homework extremely well, when buying a 9mm 06/29.

Most of the 9mm guns were rebarreled to .30 luger at the factory after tests were done. 9mm barrels were sold separately and used to recreate 9mm pistols many years later.

I have a factory letter inquiring about these conversions in the 1970s somewhere. Will look it up.

Funny. Those long barrel match lugers are the ones that Waffenfabrik Bern warned about in the 1970s.

The Buenos Aires pistols were reconverted to standard by the factory and sold on the commercial market. Barrels were sold separately.

These pistols were fitted with long barrels by a 3rd party and are not in the original configuration as such.

This was confirmed in a letter, dated 1976, when the pistols were on the market for an inflated price already.

Puts the other guns in a certain light as well.

But on the other hand, when someone bought the original guns, then sourced the original target barrels and put them back together again, can they be considered as fakes or as restorations? Whatever they are, the controversy will always be there.

It says they were in the Horst Rutsch collection. He published about them in 1978. I wonder what's still present in the RUAG archives. Time for Alexander Stucki to join in :)

The attached document shows that the Pistol 06/29 with SN P26292 is a 9mm test pistol from 1943. The following pistols were tested in December 1943: SN P26291 to P26300 (the attached document mentions SN P36300, which is certainly a typing error). The letter P is not mentioned in the document because for the W+F it was not part of SN.

SN P26291 and P26300 have been preserved in the former collection of W+F (at present unfortunately stored and not accessible).

The gun presented here is most likely on of these 9mm test pistols.

The question is whether P26292, and others, left the factory as 9mm or as reconverted. 30 luger pistols after the tests?

The Buenos Aires pistols were reconverted to .30 luger standard barrels. That we know.

By the way, here's one of those pistols Vlim warned about…:)

200mm barrel, 9mm caliber. Until a few months ago, the barrel was still in white.

Shooting with this pistol is a real pleasure!

SN P26291 and P26300 are still equipped with the original 9mm barrels. I have checked those guns myself.

I assume that SN P26292 has also remained unchanged.

To my knowledge W+F has also sold 9mm pistols 06/29 commercially.

The last sale of long and 9mm barrels took place in 1972, when Mauser bought the last leftovers.

It would be nice if someone made new Luger barrels in 6 & 8 inch lengths in both calibers.
