GERMANY halo survey
A few years ago Pete Ebbink explored the occurrences of halo surrounding the front-frame GERMANY stamp on U.S. import commercial Lugers. Regrettably, this resource is no longer available to us.
I have begun to resurrect this study in a survey to determine if there are patterns in these occurrences, if there are correspondences with occurrences of American Eagle stamps with halo, and if this can reveal anything about import practices of Luger pistols. I would appreciate if any of you who have Lugers of any variation with the GERMANY front-frame export stamp would report your information here: Serial number GERMANY haloed or no American Eagle haloed or no Absence of AE, i.e., a standard commercial model Proof stamp, if present If you prefer not to present your information publicly, please email me dwightg600@gmail.com. You all have been a great deal of assistance in the past, and I thank everyone in advance for this information. --Dwight |

GERMANY haloed or no: yes American Eagle haloed or no: possibly Absence of AE, i.e., a standard commercial model: ??? Proof stamp, if present: no Pics attached. Additional info: flat-top breechblock; scalloped toggles; toggle lock; full-width grip safety; full-width trigger guard; 7.65mm x 120mm bbl; no proofs or acceptance stamps; serials + germany only markings; no stock lug; no 'gesichert' under safety lever. I can not tell if the eagle has a halo; it may only be the slightly-rounded edges of the roll-stamping reflecting the light. Halo on germany is better viewed under less magnification. Appears to be standard export model. IIRC, I looked in someone's database some years ago and decided it may be of 1902 manufacture...Bought from/with help of, Floyd at Simpsons... ;) Edit: The more I look at the eagle, the more I think it is haloed... |
