what are the chamber date/dates, is it DWM or Erfurt.....thanks for sharing.

Edward Tinker 05-27-2007 08:55 PM

See above :D I am at Carls house, it is a 1917 / 1920, I "think" originally a erfurt, but has a DWM toggle. I am trying to convince Carl to give it to me as a birthday present.

Could be, but it sure looks like a DWM receiver to me.

Thanks Ron (this is Ed on Carls PC), with the artillery cut out, I was thinking it might be an Erfurt. (plus it has a crown RC)

It would be useful to see closeups of the left forward part of the gun, marks on the right barrel, marks on the bottom of the barrel (including the witness mark), the front of the frame and the trigger guard, the left and right sides of the breechblock, and the top of the toggle train. I am also curious to see the two matching marks (c/N, I understand) on the right frame and receiver.

The receiver proof is definitely a DWM-style proof eagle. From the pictures posted so far, this appears to be an Erfurt frame and a DWM LP-08 receiver with an Erfurt barrel--or possibly an armory spare barrel. I'm really looking forward to other pictures--this kind of puzzle gun really whets my interest and is a terrific exercise in observation.

It occurs to me to wonder, in an offhand way, if there is a number on the back of the frame above the lanyard staple?

The TSS acceptance stamps on the reciever would be a strong indication of a DWM 1917 reciever. The crown RC does rarely show up on a DWM.

Dwight Gruber 05-28-2007 10:17 AM

I base my preliminary identification of the barrel as Erfurt in origin as the c/RC is above an inspector's stamp, not present on DWM at all. Of the 10 c/RC marked DWM reported to me, none are marked on the barrel.

I have a 1917-1920 model from the same police
dept. heal stamped with S.P.L. how interesting.
Mine is in about the same condition. At first I thought it was
mine till I checked SL#.
I believe it came from Leipzig Police dept.(so I am told)

Don M 01-18-2009 09:03 PM

dirtmover,

For my database, I would appreciate knowing the serial number (+suffix) and the canceled S.L.Pol. marking of your pistol.

dirtmover 01-20-2009 12:54 AM

Don M.
SL# 6508 . No other unit markings other than the " S.P. over L. " just like the one pictured
above. There are no cancellation marks. ( no markings at all for that matter.)
Mine has mostly the same appearance as the one pictured above.
My question to you is : Is this from Leipzig P.D.? as I was told? If so, would there be any
records on it?
The only history I have of my weapon is that is was given to my father by a man that
came back from WWII. I do not know if it was during or just after.
Anything would be appreciated thank-you.
I will post some pics. after I take some. ( have to take some new ones)

Don M 01-20-2009 10:07 AM

dirtmover,

You are correct that the marking is from the S¤chsiche Polizei Leipzig, the state police in Leipzig. I know of no records of individual Saxon weapons.

It's uncommon that one of these does not have an earlier canceled S.L.Pol. grip strap marking. Perhaps the one on yours was ground off. Is the pistol a DWM and does it have a sear safety?

dirtmover 01-22-2009 01:30 AM

Don,
I am most certain that the numbers have not been ground off.
As far as the cear safety go's, I don't think it has one.
Is there one pictured above?
I have to take new pics. of mine. The last ones I took must have been too big. I was unable to upload them last night.
They will be here soon.
Thanks.

A sear safety is the litle dog leg above. not all police lugers received them, although many did.

alanint 01-22-2009 10:14 AM

I believe the large picture of the sideplate Dirtmover placed above clearly shows a sear safety at the top of the photo....

Edward Tinker 01-22-2009 10:36 AM

PICTURES NEED TO BE POSTED HERE ON THE FORUM, NOT OFF SITE.

Several reasons for this;

1. Many firewalls block "hosting" sites.
2. myself and John Sabato can not see them...
3. Taking folks from a secure site like this to a unknown webhosting site is a security risk that we beleive should not be acceptable.

So, if there are photos, I can't see them....

Don M 01-22-2009 11:36 AM

I think the fact that there are two Lugers being discussed in this thread is confusing some of us. I don't think dirtmover has posted any photos of his. I believe he is referring the to photos of Carl's pistol posted by Ed. Carl's pistol does have a sear safety.

dirtmover 01-22-2009 01:29 PM

Don,
Yes mine doe's have that saftey. Pics. will be up today.
thanks.
