Jim, the spring took it's time, but arrived yesterday afternoon... Thanks for checking up on it...

Now I have to take some measurements to compare to Ron's and then source the raw material, probably from McMaster Carr.

John,
I have made good use of looking for that broken spring. I gave the house a good old fashioned spring cleaning, but I cannot for the life of me find that spring. I guess I must have discarded it. Here is link to a new old stock spring if that might help. Not a bad price.

Thanks for looking Mike... I have seen that spring on GB... I agree it is not a bad price for the one... but my project is to try and produce usable springs for when they can't be found on GB or anywhere else...

From the price that Paul Regnier was asking for even the reproduction springs, these will be in high demand soon.

I bumped into this old interesting thread again. What happened to this exciting project, did it take off?
If the entire idea was abandoned, and if you guys don’t mind I would like to try my hands on it just for fun.

John S et al, I currently have 3 broken M1900 recoil springs that all failed in the same place: about at the mid point of the forward spring, which takes the most punishment, being anchored to frame and connected to the toggle assy. These are currently with a local machinist to see if he can repair. I've only seen one each where the rear spring or "foot" failed. TH

i've got one where the rear spring failed, cracked in two half way down....got crazy lucky and found a nice new-appearing one on Ebay of all places, for 59 bucks!
