I'd say it's worth between, and understand that this is just MHO, $400 and $600.

I got mine for around $500.

User results may vary, not valid in all states, use with proper eye protection. Insured FDIC and inspected grade A, USDA....

The holster is a newly made REPO

thegundude 02-09-2006 04:03 PM

And the matching mag helps it's value, but by how much is your discretion.

How much is the guy asking for it?

dwdesa 02-09-2006 04:21 PM

The guy is actually selling it for someone else and has little knowledge of Lugers.
It's one of those stories you hear about; Where the husband was a gun collector and passes away and the widow wants nothing to do with the guns except to get rid of them.
I of course want to get a good deal, but don't want to take advantage of the situation.

John Sabato 02-09-2006 04:24 PM

I will let other appraise the value, but I can comment that the holster is definitely a modern post-ww2 reproduction... Used and worth from about $25.00 to 40.00.

Dave, you opened this thread with a question about the canon sliding loosely on the frame rails. Has that issue been resolved?

dwdesa 02-09-2006 04:44 PM

I'm sorry, yes.
It's not a problem any more.
I figured out how it should go with help from this forum.
Thanks

Hi Dave, it appears you have what I would call a semi-shooter. That's an all matching pistol with an original finish that's less than 85% or so. I say it appears, because I can't see all the part numbering.

If the external parts are numbered "34" and the trigger, main toggle pin, hold open lever, breech block and firing pin are all numbered "34", then you have an all matching Luger. Note, I didn't include the grips since most 1939 Code 42 grips are NOT numbered!!!

If the Luger is indeed matching, the value is near $1000. I agree the holster isn't worth much.

Good Luck and let us know if you buy it!!

wlyon 02-09-2006 06:54 PM

Dave I agree with Frank , $1000 sounds reasonable, especially with the matching mag. Bill

thegundude 02-09-2006 08:49 PM

Wow. In that case I got a great deal on mine. Although the my mag doesn't match, it's has just slightly less blueing.

A thousand dollars for a matching shooter grade 42 code. Who'd have thunk it...

I guess I stand corrected.

Hey guys, thanks for all the input. Sorry its taken me so long to get back here; I've been working some long hours.

I offered the guy $750 for the gun and he accepted it. Both parties happy; he got rid of the gun for the lady and I got a good deal on a piece of history.

Now, any suggestions on how I should display the gun if I choose to?

Again, I appreciate all of your help.

Dave

I built a stand for displaying and photographing Lugers. With a piece of wood and a little time, it's easy...

If you decide to go with the type stand shown above, don't buy one of those at Ebay for $20. Buy direct from the manufacturer for $10.50 + S&H.................

I have three different ones from this company and they are well made.

thegundude 02-20-2006 12:08 PM

Someone sells those? Holy Moly... And I thought I HAD to build my own...

:p

Thanks for that link Herb. Yer da MAN! :)

Herb 02-20-2006 02:44 PM

Steve, the one you made is a little fancier but considering the time to go to Home Depot, buy the moulding, cut it and finish it and add on the verticle piece the cost of fuel etc, the Fort Sandflat stand is cheap. I have the 10 Luger display stand too and it's really nice and well built. The 6 gun stand is kinda plain but functional.
