4" barrel or 6" barrel?

Purely for the appearance, I happen to favour a barrel around five inches. Unfortunately, four and six inch barrels are easier to find.

You did not specify caliber. My five inch 7.65 shows a nice gain in velocity over the four inchers. I don't have data yet for the six inch or for any length in 9 mm.
