From my understanding, and perhaps I'm wrong, the U.S military test Lugers had the last two digits of the serial number stamped on the end of the takedown lever shaft. Not in the commercial style. Perhaps there are exceptions to this, but I've not seen any authenticated examples that are otherwise.
