Not in my personal experience spanning over 40 years. If my personal circumstances required me to carry a pistol for self defense, my one and only first choice would be the 1911A1. I carried one for over 20 years in the Army, and NEVER experienced a jam, even when it was dirty. I still carry one when necessary.

I guess you are overlooking the fact that in addition to accuracy, the Colt was designed to function in all types of conditions. It was designed and manufactured to have interchangeable parts in case something broke… The Luger may have been hand fitted, but as you may recall, it FAILED the 1907 pistol trials to be the standard pistol of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Have you asked yourself WHY? Because it is the most reliable automatic pistol ever manufactured. It has a proven 70+ year combat history. It requires no re-design. You can add bells and whistles to it if you so desire, or carry it as manufactured (As I did, and do)… and know when the safety is on, it won’t accidently fire, and when the safety is off, it will reliably defend you.

Maybe because the aftermarket is saturated with modifications and accessories for the world’s most popular pistol to allow you to customize the basic gun to your needs or tastes, and there is no money to be made there because there is not much chance for profit with all those competitors. Colt focuses on what they do best. Colt is the standard by which all other 1911A1 wannabees are compared and judged. The pistol market is flooded with modern plastic guns in all sizes and shapes to meet any taste, but to be competitive in that market would drain resources without much expectation of recouping their return on the investment…

Last time I looked, Revlon and Max Factor aren’t marketing lipstick for pigs… they target their specialized market and hope to make a profit… I think Colt is doing the same.
