Bob Simpson's 1908 Navy

I have been reading up on the 1908 Navy Lugers. In the book "Lugers at Random" from Charles Kenyon, for the 1908 Navy Commercial. These have a serail number range from 44000 to 50000. Only an estimated 1,000 to 1,500 estimated. These have had none that bare the "Germany" import stamp.

As for the 1908 Navy manufactured for the german navy, they have a 1 to 5 digit SN with or without the letters "a" or "b". An estimated 40,000 of these lugers were manufactured. The book doesnt mention these having the import stamp "Germany" on them.

My curiosity is the commercial SN range 44,000 to 50,000. Would a five digit SN be stamped on the front of the main frame? Also, if the 1908 Navy's that were made for the german navy. Were some of them initially stamped with the "Germany" import stamp from the factory if intended foe export. Or was the gun initially used by the navy then exported after the war. Just how did the "Germany" stamp come to be on the 1908 navy if they were manufactured for use by the german navy and not to be commercial.

Note that this book was written in 1969 and I am sure some facts have come about with this old guns. So, I am just quoting from the book. Please correct me if some of these facts have changed since then.
