My guess is that it is a "One-Time" or perhaps "Few-Time" Luger. It seems to me that the difference between a/an (for lack of a better term) "Odd-Ball" Luger(s) and a "Variation" is how many were made as far as we can tell. 41-42s are a variation because there were around 7000 produced. Yet there are a handful of S/42 41 Ku proofed pistols around and I don't recall them recognized as a "Variation". I'm sure other factors enter in also that qualifies a "Variation" from an "Oops", but on number produced alone ... I've not heard anything specific. Great question !!
