Without checking in Buxton's book for a better answer, I think the asterisk was starting in mid/late 1943 and then became a more prevelent as the war progressed. They are still not real common, but not rare. Steve's opinion about a rework/rejection mark like the Crown/RC could be possibility, but again this is just an opinion. Marvin |
