I did find in Gibson's book where he mentions the "7" issue.

Is there anything else in the book about the late-date assembled guns ? Other than the PX and the 3-digit, post-war late-dates, I cannot find any other info.

Or did the history/theory of these guns surface only after Gibson wrote his book...?
