It would be trite to say take them and leave, but more constructively:
I keep my pistols in silicone impregnated gun socks, which help ward off humidity. They won't help much if things get soaked, but they have helped collections through fires where water was used to extinguish the flames. I keep a dehumidifier running in my gun safe room, and a goldenrod inside the safe. If there is any chance for salt water exposure, you do need to get them out of there. Marc
