May be someone trying to give the impression that it is a Navy item (Marine).
The S/42 is bogus. Never left the factory marked like that. It looks like a reasonable 1940 date "42" code Luger that someone has been adding marks to awkwardly. Magazines look like original numbers were scrubbed, and they were re-stamped to "match" the Luger. In any case, as altered, a manipulated shooter. Marc
