My father was in the Pacific on a heavy cruiser. He brought back a last ditch model 99 from the Marshall Islands. The thing is by no means an attractive gun but he had it reblued in about 1965 and wouldn't take the world for it. That seems to have been the right thing to do for his generation at the time. They all wanted theirs to be a little special. I guess its like the theater made knives made of multi color plastic washers.
