I got my shooter for $650. It's completely refinished with brand new grips. No scratches or pitting in the barrel. No matching numbers. Looks brand new. The only problem is that it's at the gunsmith now because of some extractor issues.

If you're looking for just a shooter, I'd go for one that has been fully restored. If you go that route, then you can be sure you're only paying for the shooter and not any collector value that might be attached. I think the most I'd be comfortable paying for a shooter would be $750-800.

Make sure to fully inspect the barrel for any cracks or pits that might cause issues. The main thing to consider is "Would I feel safe shooting this 80+ year old gun I know nothing about?"

Plus if you get a refinished one, you can show up at the range with a shiny brand new luger. And that's a beautiful thing.
