Well John I feel the same way about the 1911A1, as it was our carry gun for probably 12 or 14 years.


Very reliable, although almost all of our frames were from WW2 era. some new parts, but when I went through Unit Armorer School, it was amazing how thye pointed out the Rand, Remington, etc., slides and frames.


So even tho we had jams, I believe new ones wouldn't have been so likely to jam. And they fed fine in all kinds of weather and all, but not very accurate. But, for a combat weapon, it was just fine. I always think it is silly to practice at man sized target 50 feet away (for combat), because if they are 50 feet away, grab an M-16 and shoot them.
