I live just outside the "City". Send me your New York itinerary (what you have so far). NYC is a big place.

The Intrepid, a WWII aircraft carrier is docked on Manhattan's West side. It is a floating museum and was just refurbished. It is a combat veteran, victim of a kamikazee attack. It's chilling to stand in the hangar where the zero struck. You can almost feel the presence of the lost crew. I have not seen it since its "refinish", but if you're into WWII history you'll enjoy it.

Part of the museum and docked next to the carrier is the "Growler", a nuke missle sub. First of its kind. You had to surface, open the missle pod, and fire off the deck. My how far we've come!

The Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island is POWERFUL, uniquely American history. Worth seeing. Make sure you're on line a little early for the first ferry. It can get crowded. Harkens back to a time when people came here to become Americans and make America great. Now, most people come here so they can maintain their ethnic/national identity and just live here.

Enjoy your trip, safe travels,
Jack
