I only own one of these mags, but I wish I could afford a dozen... they are GREAT magazines and feed wonderfully. My button is of the #2 variety. I can only speculate that the differences were based on the preference of the individual gunsmith at the time of manufacture and the availability of checkering tools... regards, John Sabato
