I think it came out "ok" what do you guys think? Tom the holster is perfect thank you! Policeluger the grip screws are also perfect thank you VERY much! Mark I hope I did your bluing formula justice. Thor thank you for all your help and inspiration, while I know I'll never be on your level I hope I didn't ruin my Luger in your opinion. To everyone else thanks for all your help and understanding in getting this thing to where it is now.
Here's the pics. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And to remind everyone where it came from, ![]() ![]()

Looks a lot more like a "silk purse" now! Much better than the "sow's ear" you started with. (I hope you are old enough to be familar with the saying "making a silk purse out of a sow's ear"

Terry,
I was a little worried about this during the rust bluing phase, afraid Murphy would whack you with his law, and a big problem was brewing. To my delight, however, you've succeeded handily! No surprise, really--I could tell from your posts that you were doing the research and seeking the advice from the best sources possible. I'm a hardcore tinkerer myself, and if the other hands-on folks will allow me to say it for them, I think you've made us all look just a little bit better. Teaching oneself a new skill, process, or technique makes the McGuyver in all of us proud. Kudos! DEP

Thanks. You don't think its too black do you guys? I was about to give up and strip it again but I figured what the hell give it one more chance and it seemed to come out ok but then when I oiled it its like the color got deeper and darker. Not sure if this is normal or not but its not rubbing off so I think its done. Believe me I was think the same thing with the bluing I'm just glad it came out like it did, I was so scared I screwed it up I literally could not sleep a few nights while it was sitting in the cooler rusting.

Congrats. I have one that I could think about trying to do what you did. Don't know if I'm ready to try it, yet.
