Default 'SONS OF GUNS' ON Discovery Channel a must see

A new show centers on a family run gunshop in that makes customs fireguns such as a shotgun with a silencer. An assualt rifle/shotgun for swat teams. Truly facinating!! Even insprcting and fireing a beautiful confederate cannon from the civil war. If someone could add link or You can find it on 'discovery.com'

I belong to a private list of real world operators, designers and manufacturers of weapons and systems.

Without intending to belittle anybody's opinion here, the real world gun people I am privileged to know all agree that this show is populated by clowns.

Just watching the Ma Deuce episode showed me who they are. They brought in a known M2 expert, (Christos) who I am familiar with. The show's star belittled Christo's attempts to impart some history and safety advice to the shop. Instead, they were more interested in getting the gun built fast. It was more "git 'er done" versus "let's be safe and knowledable". The final scenes showed them trying to get the M2 running without the benefit of a headspace/timing guage, (trial and error).
M2 out of batterys KILL!!!!
They even let the daughter up there for a try. They then were surprised when they lit a dry field on fire with an APIT round!
I really believe this show will prove to be a long term detriment to the shooting sports rather than a asset..

I'll second that....an M2 is nothing for yahoos to screw around with. I was at Ft Polk in the 80's, and some guy in another company didnt bother to use the headspace and timing gauge...it blew that heavy feed tray cover and the spade grip assy. clean off and messed him up pretty badly, but he lived.

Default Its for entertainment only I'm sure but dangreous

Years ago no one but a few even were aware of the art of gunmaking not to mention a the construction of a silencer. I fault them of educating that a silencer as any non_intended modification for any firearm such as a shotgun, a use for which I'm sure was never intended! I agree with You wholeheartedly! But then the old First amendment comes shining through! There are at any gunshow or computer site showing that almost anything is possible, therefore proboble~

They claim a 16db sound reduction for their "supressed" Saiga shotgun. This is really nothing by industry reduction standards. Shotguns are close quarter weapons that need to be handy and light, not have some beefy schnozz hung off the end.
This shop's customers are mostly Bubbas just looking for stuff that's "all tactical n' sh*t" (tm), not real world performance.
I personally know the top 6-7 suppressor designers and manufacturers in the US. They all collectively laughed at this..
As for the show's star...an attitude, a mouth and much scowling does not an informed, safe, knowlegable gun guy make!

The libs and gun grabbers are all smiling at this show knowingly....

Flaws I noticed.
Grenade launcher was not 40mm. It was 37mm flare launcher.
Only (1) one person is actually a gunsmith.
Like mentioned, needed to call in an M2 expert to put it together.
The under shotgun was crap. Barrel too long, semi-auto for 1 shot?, Magazine hanging down. Should have used a swivel locking, cut down single shot 10 ga. with an available specialized breeching load.
Cannon mounted in front on row boat was fake. They shot powder without a ball. Would have ripped the front of the wood boat off if packed and fired with cannon ball.
Custom built lightweight M-16? How much lighter can you get with cut down barrel, flat top receiver, shortened handguard and collapsible stock? Standard weight savings to me.

Overall, I honestly believe this show puts gun owners in a bad light. It's a good idea for a show but, the wrong business and darn wrong players.

Agreed!

I'd love to see a show about real gunsmithing.
But not this! Wow, so much stupid.

Very well put.

I watched parts of an episode and was reminded of that commercial for a transmission shop which at one point had a distance shot of two monkeys whacking a transmission with brooms. I wasn't impressed either and as s few of you have already said
the shooting sports as a whole would be better off without the Bubba effect this highlights. I'm no expert gunsmith, I know my limits, but even I could pick out the uninformed elements of this thing.

I totally agree! I stumbled on this episode and thought it was strange (and rude) the way they mocked Christo and his knowledge on history!

I think It's another way to get more people to watch. Just like Pawn Stars, Orange County hoppers, and the rest of those so called reality shows. Producers always through in controversy and drama to sell the show, even if it makes everyone look like idiots!

Unfortunately, most viewers don't have a clue and think all this crap is real!

I wondered is "True Gunsmithing" still alive. Some of those early guns are truly pieces of art! The presentation Kreighoffs are georgeous!

Beautiful Luger. This recent gem from gunbroker is more what I would expect to come out of this shop. I mean, can you get another rail onto this rig??

Every single they demonstrate their invention or modification it messes up during the first try. Then a commecial to intensify the intrigue. Then right back with a little firearm 'KY', All is saved for his 'boy and girls' and everybody goes home happy. I would rather watch storage war! At least they have Brandy!!!

I was hoping that the show would be informative and also show folks that "gun people" are real and normal people. It didn't do either!! I can't help but feel that this show paints a very wrong slant to the whole picture of gun ownership and shooting. My .02

I have done countless hours riveting on aircraft over the years and grimaced when I saw the butcher job they were doing on the M2 receiver side plates.
