Importing Guns
I have imported guns from Switzerland and am about to import from Germany. Here is a current summary of my experience, linked to relevant online resources:

Great information Michael. Good to hear from someone that has "been there - done that". I have no intent to import guns but I am sure your tips will be valuable to those who are considering it.

Self-importing has been good to me, but it is incredibly time consuming-my last one took a year-and you run the risk of having to export (time and additional expense) if the gun is not as advertised.

My pleasure. Look for updates from my latest shipment from Germany, delayed by an export permit previously procured by Hermann Historica, revoked in response to a "terrorist scare".

I shaved off my Levantine beard in response. Maybe that would help.

Customs can be such a pain in the backside. even with non firearms. My father imported an English Myford Lathe and needed a broker, for one thing it was shipped to LA instead of San Francisco, we lived in the East Bay at that time. When I was into Live Steam I once imported a Boiler and wished I had used a Broker as the custom agent did not have a rate, he finally put in under "Toys" and everyone was happy. You think Lugers cost a lot of money try Live steam, I am now living on SS disabily and have sold all my Live Steam locomotives. However, the nearest track is 250 miles away as I now live in TX. CA too costly to Live there any more.
