Luger Stovepiping

Fellow Luger fans...

I have recently purchased a LNIB Naval Luger in 9mm... I love it, however it occassionally stovepipes... someone at the range suggested +P... is this correct, or do I just need to allow the gun to break in... I was using S&B 115 and 124 FMJ... Any opinions???

I wouldn't do +P. What bullet weight and ammo brand were you shooting? What make is it? Have you tried different magazines?

I guess I need to read a little closer. You were using S&B 115 & 124. Duh.

Jay, welcome to the forum. That is an old myth, that lugers require a lot more ommph to shoot right.

When you say, LNIB; are you talking about a 1970's Mauser?

Hi,

If it's a postwar Mauser Parabellum, try using a MecGar magazine instead of the magazines that came with it (Mauser and/or 'Made in Holland' marked).

124Gr S&B 9x19mm FMJ should work without problems.

Yes, it's a LNIB from 1970... a low serial number for 9mm... should I try 147gr.??? Thank you for welcoming me to the forum... I usually collect Walthers, hence the name, "Ulm or bust"...

So, the Interarms mags aren't good??? The springs as SUPER tight, so I'm trying to relax them under load... will that help???

The Mec Gar I have runs perfectly in my 6" Interarms Mauser Parabellum with 115gr PMP ammo.

I never got my 'Mauser' marked mags to work properly, as you say, very, very tight springs.

The post war Mauser Parabellum was designed around the Haenel/Schmeisser model magazine and the Dutch company that made the Mauser magazines had troubles getting their magazines to work the way they should. Eventually Mauser even sent a Haenel magazine to the Dutch company as a pattern specimen. Quality improved after that action.
