Luger Shoulder Stock

Hi All, I was wondering if the Luger shoulder stock was produced at the DWM/ Erfurt factory or was commisioned to a sub contracter.Thank You for any information given.

Very good question, very difficult to answer. The companies used many subcontractors for small parts, but also had enough means to produce everything themselves.

Parts of the stocks may have been subcontracted, but it is my gut feeling that they were assembled at DWM / Erfurt themselves.

Pages 31 and 32 of 'Moderne Gewehrfabrikation' show the shaft production facilities at FN and Mauser. They used copying machines to carve out the rough shapes for the rifle stocks. Since these companies did their own shaft making, it's not that difficult to conclude that a simple wooden object like an LP08 shoulder stock could be made at their own facilities pretty easily and quickly.

An interesting question! I am like you...probably the stock manufacturer is one likely culprit. Seems likely anyway.

I am certain that Erfurt, at least, made their own stocks due to one I have that was finished in a rather substandard fasion and is Crown/RC marked. I imagine that DWM made their own as well as they were rifle manufacturers and had made the Navies and '02 carbines for years prior to 1914. The stock irons were definitely fitted and stamped by the pistol manufacturer.

Thank you all. In all my books I have, some mention and some in details the process of the manufacture of the pistol, but the extras are never mentions like the stock, loading tool and the famous sighting tool of the artillery. The holster is sub contracted to mention one.
