Canvas Luger Holster

There were doubts about this type of holster for a long time, but a while ago a period photo was found, showing this holster type in plain view.

So the general consensus is that they are legit. And if George sells it, that is an additional bonus.

It's a Weimar police holster. Possibly experimental, in design and material

I have had this holster in my hands and I can assure you It is period made and right as rain in May in all respects. It is a very valuble and rare specimine that will be rarely if ever encountered on the for sale market.
It will someday be in a book on rare Luger holsters as it's centerpiece. In terms of rarity it is much more rare than a Luftwaffe or an imperial Navy. I can say with some authority there is probably not more than a handfull in existance.... if that many.
The craftsmanship in this piece is surpurlative, as is the detail. The condition is better than excellent.
Some lucky fellow with more spare change than I will have a crown jewell in his collection...
If I had either brains or money I would own it...

Andy, No, this holster is clearly German..It's construction says that loud & clear. Hard to say why it does not have a tool pocket. Could be it was left off as a way to speed manufacturing.

It's a beautiful holster and I'd rather have a luger in that one than a standard German military or Police. For that matter, I'd own this holster before I ever owned a Luger. I want, I want, I want....

Interesting FANTASY holster. Judging by the condition of the one shown, never issued. Since no marking were shown, not military or Police issue. The workmanship is certainly up to German standards and almost as good as Jerry Bs. Time to stop pulling our collective legs. I'd certainly want more documentation to declare it a pre1946 experimental. TH

The holster was brought in to the SOS a couple of years ago by a couple of "country boys". It contained a 1921 Landjaegerei marked P08 and a second nonmatching police magazine. The young man who was selling it said that it came from his father as a set and for all he knew it had always been together. A dealer bought the pistol with matched magazine and I bought the holster and remaining mag. A number of fellows at the later NAPCA convention in Chattanooga looked at it, as did Jerry Burney, all agreed that it was a German holster. The use of brown leather, the "up-strap" and the presence of the police Luger lead me to think that it might well have been intended for police use.

It's all "water-over-the-damn" now as the holster has disappeared in the US Mail.

Tom, I understand doubts people may have. I have examined many thousands of holsters both real, repro and fantasy. I am more familiar with German construction methods and materials than most. This Police holster was without a doubt pre 1945. I had the chance to examine it in my shop under intense light and magnification. Every stitch, backstitch, material and method of construction declared loud and clear when and who made it. The documentation of authenticity is with the holster wherever it goes for those who know what they are looking at.
Canvas holsters are not unknown...Period photographs exist of their use as early as WW1. Granted they are rare...there are also repro's. Any repro I have ever seen was a poor thing that would not fool a blind man.
I suspect this holster was an experimental piece..perhaps a small run.
George's canvas Police holster is..or was? the real deal and I stake my reputation on my analysis of it. I have no ax to grind or financial interest. My determination is intirely free of any bias.
