1900 Luger ???

I am new to this site .... I wanted to post a early 1900 Luger that my father picked up when I was a young man, mid 70s. I think it may raise some eyebrows and would like to here some discussions on this piece. I would like to post some pictures ,but do not have access as of yet, or do not no how to post. I am new to forums

It is much better to post photos directly on the forum rather than Photobucket...then the photos don't disappear after a while.

Thomas, welcome to the forum. When you want to post pics, go down to the bottom of the thread, below quick reply, and click on go advanced. scroll down on the resultant page and you will see "manage attachments". I think you can figure it out from there.

I transfered the pictures here, and cropped them, hope that was okay.

You have an early, but before the Test Lugers (not a test luger sad to say) with the bomb that is actually a DWM marking.

Thank you all for viewing and yes thank you for the transfer. I tried to add but I think the file was to big. I used a camera that I am not used to for quality but the size , well thanks for the transfer. I had hoped the bomb was a U S Ord mark with the letter J an inspector stamp. I found the bomb marks about 10 years ago and it took me this long to post. This is why I wanted to post because I wasn't sure and I knew that this site would give accurate knowledge. As everyone with an antique you hope your gun could be an exception. I was kinda thinking that Luger scraped up a few lower serial #s to make up the 100. I searched as many web sites as I could and more or less came up with the same answer. but some sites said different things about the bomb....

The bomb on 1900 should be a German inspection stamp. I had an AE 1900 with Germany stamp in the past, it got bombs in the same location. Exactly what they checked when that bomb stamps were applied is unclear.

Accompany with that AE 1900 was a receipt of 1972. The gun was $650 at that time

It's an easy 97% with mint bore.

Is there a photo of a US Ord stamp now I am curious as to what it looks like. I feel a little embarrassed that I posted a picture of the rear sight having been filed off I cant believe someone would destroy a weapon like this. It sure is UGLY

I had a 1900 with no rear sight and ended up buying one from the LugerDoc.

Hello Thomas, and welcome to the forum.

Congratulations on your 1900 Luger, and thank you for posting pictures.

The DWM worker department inspection marks came in quite a variety of shapes and patterns. The one you mention is known, as described above...

If you should be interested, contact G.T. (Gerald) on this forum about repairing the base of your magazine. He's an expert, and does beautiful work.

personally, although well used, I would like this 1900, it has been around for 110+ years

Yes, since it's a matching number, that's the way to go. Much smaller than a stock lug repair, if it's to be built back up with weld. So it may not be too pricey to bring this back. Thor's work will knock your socks off!

Thomas et al, The so called "flaming bomb" that you refer to, is actually the zodiac sigh of Taurus, which was used as an inspection stamp by an early DWM inspector. TH PS: the only M1900 rear toggle link that I currently have in stock is number 24.

Thank you for your reply, I am looking to keep the numbers matching , I am thinking of having thor do some work on it . I have to waite until I have some more money. I hate to alter any weapon ,but in this case maybe......

Tom,
I respectfully disagree.
Taurus zodiac signs have 2 lines/horns above a circle. The flaming bomb proofs on early DWMs have 3 lines/flames above a circle.
