Default Rock Island Auction

I figure all you guys know of the auction, but I figured to post it for others that do not. Lots of Lugers with est. as low as $1,200 to $20,000. Couple of custom Luger .45s. Looking maybe bidding of a couple. Wish I could afford a .45 !! Good luck to those that bid. Scroll down some.

It's my observation that low estimates are pretty much the norm for a couple of good reasons.

First, a low estimate attracts potential bidders. "Oh man, the auction house doesn't see what a gem they have, and maybe I can sneak off with this inexpensively".

Second, this way they can attract potential consignees. "See, we routinely garner higher-than -estimates with our auctions, so consign with us and we can maximize the realized price for you too".

For this reason, I pretty much ignore obviously low estimates.

Plus all the post auction fees and transfers.
I do visit their lookyloo days just to handle and look at all they are auctioning. Neat place to visit.

I get their flyers and color catalogs, and usually I get a phone call reminding me to bid. I haven't gotten a call for this one yet. I usually put in a bid for something to keep the catalogs coming. I'll have to look and see if they have anything I fancy.

Well, I got a phone call from Meagan at RIA about 9:30am today, reminding me that RIA has their auction Nov 30 & 1-2 Dec. Nice of her.

They do a nice job of posting attractive pictures and descriptions.
I love the catalog, too.
But, the add-on fees are horrible !
