An otherwise nice 1940 Hans Romer

I got this otherwise nice 1940 Hans Romer holster recently.
Condition is actually quite good. The leather is fairly supple, the stitching tight, pull strap intact.
It looks like it was originally brown and poorly dyed black. Maybe not, it's hard to tell. It's mostly brown now.
Anyway, the initials are stamped pretty deep. I don't think even Jerry can fix it.

Lucky it came with good things inside!

(More on that later.)
Any input as to value in the current condition would be appreciated. Thx.

Are you talking about the top flap??? I bet Jerry can fix it...Jerry can fix a rainy day!!!

Is it stamped into the leather??? I accidentally found out that steam can remove leather stamping...On a US tanker/pilot's shoulder holster...

It's stamped so deep the leather is cut. I'm sure it could be made to look better, but it will never look good....

Who knows? Jerry may have an entire, salvaged top flap lying around somewhere that could be seamlessly added with none the wiser....

No..The holster was made black originally. The inside back panel and the tool pouch tell the tale...

Doug is right..only a top replacement will salvage this. Value as is ..50 bucks.

Roland..Yes a tough deal..too bad whoever did this used a 400 dollar holster to doodle on! I think you can blame Tandy leather for this....

i wouldn't change the top at all - you are welcome to send it to me for $50 plus shipping

I think its part of its history and have three P38 holsters that have been 'modified' by the GI's

Heh, no I think I'll hang on to it for a bit but I'll let you know.

Unfortunately this wasn't modified by the GI who brought it back although the rig was in possession of the former owner, who added his initials, at least since the late 40's or early 50's.
