Stu, if I had the money, and the metal finish was reasonably good, YES, I think that is about market price at the moment for a Russian Capture imported Luger... They only keep going up! After all, there is a finite pool of these antique weapons, and it keeps getting smaller, not larger.

Thanks John. I tend to agree with you; as people use the 'shooters' things do wear out eventually and, as you mentioned, there's a finite pool.

One day I'll find a bargain but until then......

Thanks, Stu

Question

I always thought that early Erfurts were rust blued not dipped. At what time did they revert to dip-bluing?

This is a refinish performed sometime by someone. Not official in any way.

Hi Stu!

I have to respectfully disagree with John on this one. For a refinished Luger, $550 is about $200 more than it is worth :-(

Warm regards,

Kyrie

Hi Kyrie. I'd sort of split the difference and say 5. It seems nowadays that in the general run of things any complete shooting Luger sells between $450 & $600 on the open market.

I'm sure there are a number of much better deals out there to be had, but without a few contacts or a good selection of gun / pawn shops finding them get tougher !

Around my neck of the woods Lugers seem pretty rare and most I see are very expensive. To give an example; 1917 Erfurt, sear safety, with about 60% finish, 20% straw and the head broken off the rear toggle pin - $795 firm. That's more than I'm prepared to pay, but I bet you it's sold by now.

The old law of supply and demand comes into play; something is worth what someone will pay and someone will sell for, you have to have both sides of the equation !

The search goes on, but prices certainly aren't going down. But look on the bright side; I always buy high and sell low, so at least I'm providing a few of the bargains out there

Should you know of a similar gun for $350 just tell me where to send the money !
