Anthony North & Ian V. Hogg also mentioned Borchardt's sensitivity on ammunition consistency in their excellent book "The Book of Guns & Gunsmiths". Luger came from Borchardt, they must share similar issue on ammo.

Greetings to All:

Where these guys writing in the early days got their ammo performance numbers is quite a mystery to me, as I've reviewed all of the original German sources and have never seen any German Army Luger pistol ammo rated higher than 1,076 fps (out of a 100mm barrel) at 123 grains.

If you want to destroy your Luger, please feel free to shoot hot +P+ ammo through it, which won't even approach the figures quoted here.

One person creats a story, the rest repeat it. Total crap!!

The real problem can be traced to too short of OAL and powder charges not balanced to the weight of the recoil springs used.

Sieger, when these guys were measuring velocities of there Army pistols at 1076fps with a 123gr bullet; did anyone "over there" measure velocities of the same ammo thru the Navy Luger?.............................

Dear all,

my Luger shoots best with the LAPUA 9mm rounds. Its load is very similar to the original rounds these days.

I doubt you will pickup 300 fps with only two additional inches.
