Shooter Ammo ?
Would appreciate some suggestions from those that shoot lugers what commerically available ammo they have had good luck with.
I understand I should plan to use only round-nose FMJ, but beyond that I haven't a clue. Thanks for your advice... |

Re: Shooter Ammo ?
I have had good luck with most types of ammo, but it does depend of the Luger!
There was several discussions recently about ammo and you can check the archives if you'd like. For cheaper ammo, I like the Remington and Winchester you can get at Wally mart, shoots good in mine. Never shot the Wolf ammo, heard good and bad. The aluminum (sp) cased ammo from my local makers, uhhhh, mind is blank, I have had trouble with it feeding in one of my Lugers but not another. I like 124 grain, but 115 shoots fine too. Ed |

Re: Shooter Ammo ?
I shoot the wolf stuff, and I do have a few minor problems with it:
-It is messy. The lacquer on the steel cases comes off in powder form and sticks everywhere and makes it hard to clean the nooks and crannies -Every once and awhile the spent shells will not fully extract and jam in the chamber. I use a wood stick to un-jam them. A related problem is sometimes they extract, but slow enough that they get caught by the bolt as it comes forward again. -It seems to be dirtier than the Q (NATO, Winchester)loads. The wolf ammo is very inexpensive, and if you can live with the above, I think it is alright. However, the next batch of ammo I buy will be brass cased Q loads, unless I can't get it cheap enough. |

Re: Shooter Ammo ?
I shoot the Wolf 115gr and never had a problem. Stuff holds nice tight groups for me. Its pretty hot ammo going at 1150fps or at least thats whats printed on the box. I do believe its moving out about that. I'll have to shoot some over my crono someday. Like Ed said, it does depend somewhat on the Luger.
Also you may have to try another magazine if you are having feed problems. I use a FXO mag and it works nearly all the time. Some suggest to replace the main spring with a commerical spring from Wolff if you're having hold open trouble with the toggle. Good luck and enjoy shooting Bob |

Re: Shooter Ammo ?
Norinco works as well as any, and lots of it for sale on Auction Arms, cheap. (Or on Gun Broker or in the Shotgun News)

Re: Shooter Ammo ?
I buy what ever is on sale, American Eagle, UMC, CCI Blazer, etc., and have never had a problem with any of it. Watch out for some of the cheap import stuff, be sure the ammo has non-corrosive primers and you should be OK, If you are depending on using it for self defense where the first round is the important one, you might want to opt for the premium stuff, Winchester, Remington or such just in case.

Re: Shooter Ammo ?
Winchester 115gr FMJ which I get at WalMart, box of 100 for $11.00.
Never had a problem with it. Don't know what some of the off brands sell for, but reliability is worth something. |

Re: Shooter Ammo ?
I under stood that later model Lugers (date?) were best with 124 grain compared to 115 due to the heavier recoil spring. 115 grain is not always enough for a full recoil to pick up the next round?

Re: Shooter Ammo ?
I read that in the Luger Mecanical Features E-book.

Re: Shooter Ammo ?
I believe German army ammo was from about 92 grains up to around 116 grains, I shoot about 90% 115 gr in mine and can"t see a difference. The 115 SEEMS to be more accurate. (handloads and commercial)
