"How to" question from a newbie

Hello,

I recently just bought my very first luger and I was wanting to put some pictures of it on here so that you can help me ID and value it, along with the 2 magazines I got with it. My question is how do you guys take such great pictures of your guns and magazines? I have a simple Fuji digital camera and can't get the pictures to turn out when I try to take pictures of the markings. Any advice?

Hello Kyle, two ways;

Buy a better camera (I just had to) and take lots of pictures in really good light.

The markings themselves are a pain to take pictures of, if you lighten them up with laquer sticks, that helps very much.

Make sure that your auto focus is working. When I take close ups with my camera, I have to press halfway on the button and hold it until it focuses. Then I press the rest of the way down to take the pic. How many mega pixels is your camera? Does it have zoom? Refer to your manual for focus issues. You may have to refer to the manual that's on the software CD that came with your camera to find it (if applicable). If your camera is less than 3.0 megapixels then you will want to get a better camera. I have a 4.0 with zoom and it takes decent pics.

You can also get some nice pictures with a flat bed scanner. KFS

Try using a small inexpensive table tripod to mount your camera on and use the delay timer on your camera to take the picture. This should eliminate any camera movement and give you a sharp picture.

The tripod will also allow you to take photos with a slow shutter speed using a couple of extra lamps for lighting so you will not need the flash. The flash creates too much glare.
