Has anyone seen this on a toggle?
I went shooting yesterday and while I was cleaning it last night I noticed these indications on the side of the middle toggle link. I never noticed these indications before, so I dont know if it was there from day one.
They kinda look like shrinkage indications in the toggle, but Im not sure. I performed a liquid dye penetrant examination on the area and had very little bleedout, which would represent very shallow depths of the indications. I also performed a wet fluroscent magnetic particle examination on the area as well, whic revealed no indications with this inspection method. Visually though you can seen the indications under proper lighting pretty good. Has anyone else evry encountered these same style indications and could these indications just be shrinkage indications from the manufacturing of the toggle. The toggle link does have the S/42 code stamped on it if that will help at all. |

This might sound weird.. but do you have another toggle? If you do, hang each one by a short sewing thread and tap it with a brass hammer or like material that it softer then the toggle. Do the same with the other one. Weakened metal usually has a distinctive different sound and does not 'chime' as clear.
