The link below is of over 100 photos from the Pacific theater during WW11 that should give the viewer a new respect for the warriors that participated in these battles, I know it did me.

P-40 Warhawk engines

#15&16 Although the Canal was strictly a Marine assault, how can you determine these are marines?

#19, my fifth grade teacher who died just a week ago was the gunner on none of these Dauntless's

#23...Malinta Tunnel Corregidor Island. Took a tour of the island back in 69, R&R from Nam. The island had not changed all those years and still hasn't. To much live ammo laying around. Topside and the Mile long Marine barracks still just skeletons.

Well I just say thank you, this photos are really beautiful, and in the meantime I'd like to show them to my smaller daughter Valentina, (11 y.o.) just to try to explain her how much our present time Freedom did cost.

Because they are carrying 03 Springfields. The Army had fully transitioned to the Garand by then, (with a few homefront exceptions and the occasional sniper).

Army troops in the Pacific soon learned NEVER to set their Garand down within 100 feet of a Marine in the field or it would certainly disappear!!

but I also was told and have read, the Marines didn't like the M-1 when it was first introduced and continue with 03 contracts, many reasons were given but the one I read over and over again was, the M1 wasted too much ammo and Marine marksmanship would suffer, which is understandable in a way but I loved all semi-autos/autos when they were in my hands.

While the Marine brass may have had some initial objections, the Marine fighting men learned to appreciate a semi auto after a few encounters with their Japanese opponents and certainly after their first Banzai charge.

Your welcome Sergio, I wish that here in the U.S. we could find a way make our youth more aware of the sacrifices that were made by others for their benefit so that they could enjoy the freedoms that they now do. We should all try to be more aware of the fact that, as the saying goes, Freedom Is Not Free.

However, one of my most prized firearms is an '03 in the USMC number range. I'd like to think it maybe did duty on the 'Canal.

And yes, it still shoots hard and straight. And yes, I only hooked my right thumb over the stock once!
