For real or no?

I see one in Kenyon's book "LUGERS AT RANDOM" on page 399 and one is now listed on Ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Luger-Artill...item48655b8851

I have see where some people say there is no such animal. What is the consensus here??

from experts they have told me - not leather - canvas yes

I do not doubt them, but most things WW1 were made from leather, but these are people who know what they are talking about - so unless one comes in a 'collection' or falls in your lap, I would not pay big bucks for one, unless you really want one.

Here is a link to our own Mauro Baudino's website on the LP-08. This link will take you to a page where you can see a photo of the canvas type TM-08 case that was used. I have never seen a period photograph of a leather snaildrum case. Surely if they were real, at least one photograph before/during/after WW1 showing the leather case in use would have surfaced by now. Hence, until proven otherwise, it's a FAKE.

Considering that drum magazines did not exist until 1916/1917 (patented in July of 1916), a 1915 dated carrier might seem a little suspect?

Probably...a lot has been learned since the book was first published in 1969 (and, other than publishing it in a smaller format, has not been updated since). It still remains an excellent reference for the new collector as it provides a "catalog" of most major Luger variations. A little of the descriptive information is no longer valid, so newer references should be consulted when contemplating a high dollar or obscure purchase.
