Book rates
What is the cheapest way to send books to a member? I just sent set of four Jans' books to a member friend. It was over to thirty bucks!

You can use the post office "media mail" rate, but it will take a very long time for the item to arrive. Shipping isn't cheap these days.

shipping
Hi Eric, to answer your question, USPS Priority Medium Flat rate is the best if the books will fit? Otherwise, USPS Priority in whatever size box you might need, and, that they will ship?.. Best, GT

USPS "Media" or "book" rates are greatly reduced, but typically they take 3-5 weeks for delivery.

My experience has been that media is not as slow as I expected. If shipping priority, books will fit in the 'flatter' but longer box for medium or large boxes.
You can get free priority boxes from the USPS - on line. |

I recommend USPS media mail. Great prices and I have had books delivered in a week.

Use a plain cardboard box marked books and it will ship one half the cost of using postal box priority mail.
last box of books I sent was in a priority box and it cost $20.00. I ask the clerk how much for plain box - He weighted if and said - $10.00...nuf said. Last edited by hayhugh; 02-14-2022 at 09:18 AM. Reason: more info |

fastest + most efficient way is USPS priority mail flat rate padded envelopes , $8.45 plus $50.00 in free insurance + free tracking included in price - flat rate is not based on weight or distance - USPS also has flat rate boxes for larger items - works for all U.S. states , possessions , + territories - i have shipped 40 lbs of lead to Oregon in padded envelope recently , reenforce with lots of good tape -

"Media Mail" for sure - used to be called "Special 4th class book rate". The almost universal insistence on using Priority mail for EVERYTHING (Like a 50 lb sewing machine) is a pet peeve. Interestingly though, Priority can be the cheapest option for small but heavy objects - otherwise its a ripoff.

besides free tracking +$50.00 included insurance another advantage of priority mail is that you do not have to wait 2-3 weeks to find out package was lost - for less than $9.00 you can ship anything that fits in small flat rate box or the 9" X 12" padded envelope anywhere in U.S.A including territories + APO , FPO + have it arrive in 2 - 4 days -

I regularly send and receive things in the mail system, Canada Post, USPS, UPS, FedEx etc etc.
The one thing that is true for all of them is that over the last few years the rates have skyrocketed out of control and is actually affecting my life in a negative way. Dam i miss the 'good old days'.
