Default What Luger

Hi,

a friend showed me a Luger that he owned for a few years.

Quite good conditions

There is no serial number to be seen anywhere on the outside.

Erfurt on the toggle.

Gold color take down lever, safety lever, magazine button.

Any Idea of what it could be?

Will try to get some pictures tomorrow

Thank you

Before anyone can give you an answer, we'll need to see sharp, detailed pictures including the top, sides, underside of the barrel near the receiver and the front of the frame.

It "sounds" like a parts gun but no way to tell for sure without seeing it.

That is what I thought as well.

There is no number anywhere.

Well, just heard from him that he is trading it for a Swiss 29, but I will try to get the pictures.

Just remember it is illegal to own or sell a firearm without a serial number of some kind. Bill

If I remember correctly, there was not always a requirement for serial numbers on firearms and if the gun predates the law, then it is okay. Though I do not remember if it was the NFA '34 or the GCA '68 that inaugurated the requirement.

The law in the US is specific. If the firearm was marked with a serial number on the frame at the factory, it is illegal to remove it.

If you acquire a firearm without a serial number, you can request the ATF to assign one and have it marked on the pistol.

All Luger pistols were serialized by the factories. If the frame has no serial number, it was removed. That would be illegal in the United States.

I don't know the Swiss laws, but we have members from there that may help.

Today I checked the gun again.

No serial number and no signs of it having been removed.

We came to the conclusion that it is probably a parts assembled gun.

Serial number not mandatory here till now.

From September if already in country, sn not mandatory, must be there for new guns and imported guns.
