Real or Repro?
Can someone help me with black plastic P08 grips? I'm unsure how to tell if these are real or repros'. They came on a mismatched BYF41. Pictures are in nature light.

Copied/ cast from a pair of grodey grips. The backsides look terrible, and the fronts have incorporated all the blemishes and wear of whatever they were cast from. Other ways to tell plastic from real Bakelite would be the 'hot pin test', and checking to see if the holes in the back are threaded to accept a grip screw.

Aftermarket too.
Why spending hundreds to buy parts... The gun must be in great shape except grip panels, I assume? It's a painful process to find spare original parts in great shape -- harder to find than great guns. It's like kidney not being rare at all (every person has a pair), but it's very hard to find kidney donors. Sorry for the inappropriate analog, but that's the way it is. |

This type of panels are fragile after decades. Don't shoot Black Widow as is. No need to test those panels. That also implies spare genuine black panels are not easy to come.
I have been looking for a good Mauser 4v magazine spring, but noticed its so hard to come from guns in poor shape. So I gave up. There are plentiful of guns in poor shape, but most of their organs are also in poor shape, or replaced long time ago. |

From the pictures to me they look like copies.

M88, If you're looking for the proper original checkered wood grips, I do have a "like new" set of unnumbered armour's spare E/135 marked inside, both sides. TH
