Default Luger function problem

I hope that some of you might be able to help me with a â??dippedâ? 41/42 Luger that I just acquired, my plan is to use it as a shooter. I brought the gun down to the range on Sunday for a 200 round workout using factory Winchester 124 FMJ. Every couple of rounds the toggle slapped open, I probably should have had different types of ammo but my thinking is it might be related to a spring problem? Also, the gun fired a two round burst just once, is that a sear problem?

Anyone that you would suggest for parts if I need them?

Default Use Tom Heller for parts...

but I would try a new magazine or two (MecGar)before you do anything else. Interaction between the magazine and the toggle hold open on a mixed part pistol could be causing the problem you have described.

You might also invest in a new spring pack from Wolff springs...

Give the pistol a through and detailed cleaning before your next range trip. Check the sear and firing pin engagement surfaces to see if they have been modified by an amateur to obtain a lighter trigger pull. If it ever doubles again, get professional help before you accidently hurt yourself of someone else... it is not worth taking any chances. A full auto Luger can be totally uncontrollable, especially if you are not expecting it to happen.

I've got an Erfurt Police 1918 mismatched, have nearly worked out the problems. Contact me off line and I'll offer details. I'm new to this and really have learned a lot.

Mark, It sounds as though your hold open spring is weak (allows HO to apply from recoil) and the doubling might be corrected by a stronger trigger bar spring, but checking the sear to firing pin over lap and the "squareness" of their engagement, is good advise. Tom h

Thanks guys, since the gun is all matching I am not sure that it is a problem with fit.

Will the service spring pak from Wolff fix the problem and is the magazine the "round style" spring?

If the magazine is the original type for the pistol, it would take the zig-zag spring.
