dry firing?

Here's another quick question. Is dry firing OK to do on a Luger or is it asking for a heap of trouble?

It is hard on it. If you do it, it is suggested that you buy special "dry-firing" cartridges, they are plastic, with a primer area that absorbs the blow.

If you insisted on doing it, then buy a newer replacement firing pin and put it in (if you shoot her, you should do that anyway).

Dry firing without a snap cap is a no no in a Luger or any other gun without a safety spring on the pin as in a 1911. It will eventually damage the breach block. Either buy a commercially sold snap cap or make your own.

The proper way sans the snap cap would be thus. Pull toggle up about an 1/2" till it stays open but not locked back. Then simply pull the trigger and the toggle will close and de **** the striker.

I tried your method of decocking and it didn't work on either of the two Lugers I used. The first one was a 1939 Mauser 42 code, the other a 1918 DWM Simson rework. Anyone know what am I doing wrong?

Disregard the reply above, I figured out what I was doing wrong 1/2" means one half inch not half way. Thanks for the method of doing this, once I get the hang of it I think it will make things easier on my baby's.

Between now and the time we find 7.65 snap caps, take a few empty cases, deprime them, and fill the primer hole with epoxy.

I've heard of filling the primer hole with rubber from a pencil eraser. I've never tried it, but I know different size erasers are available for mechanical pencils from office supply stores. I've given some thought to making up "snap cap dummy rounds" for the .30, and then offering them for sale to the membership for a modest price--any takers?

when toggle pulled up, then depress trigger (toggle still pulled back), then when you lower the toggle the trigger should not snap?

OK Ed, I'm with you. It seems no matter what I do..... I can ride the toggle down with the trigger depressed or what ever, as soon as I let up on the trigger and depress the second time it still fires. What's up with that?

Woo Hoo! I figured it out. Geez. I've been messing with 1911's so long this is a completely foreign concept to me. This is a really nice numbers matching 1915 and I just didn't want to screw it up. Now if I could just figure out how to up-load some pictures I'll show you what I'm talking about.

easy to up load pictures, trick is to have them less than 200kb's.

there is a tutorial, some idiot made a couple of years ago (me), it still gives you an idea, although slightly out of date.

When you go to upload pictures, make a new thread, and then show n tell all about her.

Ok, I'll work on it. Ever heard of a guy from Maple Falls, WA named Cliff LaBounty? He gained some national reknown as a master gun-smith.
This was his personal shooter. I feel like a bear cub playing with his peter with no other instruction. Thanks for your help.

Oh, by the way. Everson is in the northwest corner of Washington State.
We're about 18 miles northeast of Bellingham (which is right on I-5) about 6 miles south of the Canadian border.
