Default 1940 Swedish Commercial-For Review

Hello everyone. Today I have for your consideration, a minty 1940 Mauser Banner Swedish Commercial in .30 LUGER. Serial number 6729w. It has an original all salt blue finish of both the frame and barrel assembly, no rust blue frame. The side of the barrel is not marked Kal. 7.65. Both the blue and straw rate 98%, just a very slight bit of wear at the muzzle and edges All matching except for magazine. Based upon my research, a short range of approximately 200 lugers were contracted to Sweden in the serial range 6100w to 6800w, 1940 dated, 7.65mm-4 inch, with small parts being strawed, several of these have 7.65 inscribed on the barrel. I acquired this several decades ago. I am not sure of current value. Please comment on current top value and any additional info, critique, etc. I believe this is of the rarest batch of Swedes, ie 1940. My knowledge about this block of Banners is from the old 70’s and 80’s Luger Bibles. If there are newer sources or sales lists that you folks are aware of, I would appreciate it as my latest sources date from the 1980's. I am looking for further verification from you experts that this is in fact a Swedish Commercial. If not, then what is it? Thank you all. Fire away…..

I can't help you with any info about your pistol; just saying it looks great. Being of Swedish decent I would love to have one for myself.

Not sure how anyone can place a current value on the gun unless there have been other like-models on the market recently. Simpsons, Ltd?

OK thanks. I have not seen any listed on Simpson, Legacy or Pre 98 on my periodic checks. Last ones I saw were:
Simpson Lugers 4-15-11
MAUSER 1940 BANNER COMMERCIAL; 7.65 mm; 95% blue, 95% straw, excellent bore, excellent grips, 4'' barrel, Swedish commercial contact, factory marked Kal. 7.65 (30) cal., on barrel, original matching magazine ser # 7535 w. , Mag. black body w/ alum bottom, an extermely rare variation, , Catalog Number B-25 $6,995.00

Simpsons Luger 6-9-2012
MAUSER BANNER 1940 SWEDISH; 30 LUGER; 92% blue, 80% straw, very good bore, very good grips, 3 7/8'' barrel, Swedish commercial, matching numbers, the proper un-numbered barrel marked 7.65 Kal on the left side and Eagle/N proofed on the end of the front sight base. Proper rare magazine marked 7.65 on the aluminum base which is properly not numbered. Some thinning of the finish overall., s/n 76xxw, Catalog Number B-03 D10826 $3,395.00

Also a 2016 blue book listing of a 98% for $8,500.00, but the market has dropped since then I think.

I am curious that Simpson remarks include un-numbered barrel. Mine has it's serial number on the barrel. I have not seen literature on the barrel not being numbered on Swedish commercial. So again anyone have knowledge about that fact? Of course a late 1940 like mine could have the barrel numbered? or? Again looking for you experts to help clear this up.

I'll have to look in Mauser Lugers by Don and Joop, see if they have this variation. However, a google search of Mauser Banner Swedish showed a number of examples sold

I don't have the book Mauser Lugers by Don and Joop, so anything they have to say about a 1940 Swedish would be appreciated. I will check the links you listed. Thanks.

There is a brief discussion of Commercial Lugers sold to Sweden and a small number of other customers in this period.

I think the prices listed on Simpson's site and Legacy's site are achievable with patience for the right buyer.

Thank you Edward and Mrerick. From the books I have, this mauser banner falls into the correct block for a 1940 Swedish. But, it sounds like there are some in this block which are not. So there is nothing to document this one or for that matter others listed at Simpsons, Legacy etc as being 100% a Swedish Commercial? Is that correct as far as you guys know? I am just trying to understand how the others are certain their 1940 banners are Swedes, so that I can be certain or not about mine.
