Default New Collector Questions

I recently acquired two P-08 pistols.

#1 1936 S/42 - Grips and firing pin have no numbers. HO latch is missing. Since the grips and FP have no number, can I assume they are NOT original? All other parts have matching numbers.

#2 1939 S/42 - Top is all matching numbers S/42.

Bottom is approximately WW1 era with all matching numbers including matching wood bottom magazine.

Is this type of mismatch a common thing?

Thanks for any comments.

I wouldn't call this common, but it's typical of parts assembled firearms.

With some study, you can determine the details of your second pistol's frame manufacturer.

In some years, grips were not numbered, but you should find inspector marks associated with the Mauser factory stamped into them.

The firing pin should be numbered, and should have flutes cut into it (3 near the front).

The inside of the trigger plate should have a number relating to the first digits of the serial number. Either the number itself, or the number plus one.

If you see a large "X" stamped into the frame or other parts, they were possibly Russian Capture guns and might have been refitted by an Eastern Block arsenal.

These should make good shooters if fitted properly.

Congratulations!

Marc
