Post Navy from Hamburg

quote:
My uncle captured this on a German ship in Hamburg in 1945. This has been in a bureau drawer until now, was brand new, never fired until now. At this point in time it has had 15 rounds down the bore. You offered to post some pics as I certainly would not size them correctly. I cannot find a date anywhere, but as you can see it is in excellent + condition.

This is NOT mine, I wish it was. This belongs to a soldier/civilian assigned / stationed in Kuwait and I resized and posted them for him.

This looks like a sweet gun!

Some of the pictures are blurred and he and I know that.

All,
It appears to be a very nice Weimar Navy. Would love better pix and property/sn data. If owner is interested in selling, I will make a very attractive offer.

Art's reply;

quote:
I'm back in Kuwait/Iraq now from R&R so I don't have the Ser# with me. As I recall it has 4 digits maybe 9973, not sure now but I'm close. No letters in serial #. I can't imagine selling it; it has been in the family too long and would be a sin. In fancy script on top it does look like DWM. I truly am Luger ignorant, but I can learn. What is something like this worth? I doubt there can be too many out there that have been fired less or kept in such pure condition. When I posted on the forum I put all the data I had. BTW, what is a sneak? It truly is what I have claimed, if there was ever any hanky panky with it, it was while the German navy still owned it in 1945. As my uncle claims (he's still alive) it appeared new, straight from the arms room on the vessel. He was with in the US army, but working with a British team that took the port. The Brits had first crack at plundering the ships, but were not allowed to take weapons, he and his buddies liberated a pile of Lugers. Sadly he does not remember the name of the vessel or what type/class it was. My next task is to talk my uncle out of his trapdoor Springfield which is supposed to be in excellent shape, I haven't seen it yet but am drooling already. Thanks for your help. Art

Further info (I posted on the wrong forum, that is why I couldn't find Art's first message

quote:
I know nothing on Lugers at all, it seems to be a field in itself. I'll start by describing the holster. It has printed on it, GUSTAV REINHARDT BERLIN, A large M with an anchor under it. The eagle with a WaA18. Very good shape to excellent, stiching is weak in spots.

The Luger itself has crowns over N on it and another M over an anchor at the rear, and an N.536, that is one digit off from the clip, (wooden base). On the toggle in script it looks like a DWAC (not sure on this). At the back of the toggle there is a 73. the serial # which is on the barrel and reciever is 4 digits (matching). This Luger like I said was captured by my uncle off of a captured navy vessel in Hamburg. It appeared new when he plundered it, and has had only one clip fed through it in its life. It still appears in (as new) condition as it has never been out of a bureau drawer with the exception of annual oilings. Not even handling marks or scratches with the exception of a couple of thin spots in the bluing at the muzzle. The two clips it has don't match, one is nichel with a wooden base, the other is blued with a plastic base and FXO an eagle and the number 37. My uncle and his buddies plunder a number of these from the ships arms room, perhaps they grabbed whatever clips were there without matching them up.
