Post G-M Auction Preview in SF...

http://www.gregmartinauctions.com/auctionsevents.html

...okay it is not a gun show...but it is free to enter, lots of types of handguns and long guns on the tables, no Owners around, and most can be picked up, handled, inspected...and did I say it is free...!!!

Not a bad way to see a variety of our favorite lugers and original finish without the hype...

Lugers are in the Lots # 2300 through # 2800 range. No real mint ones this time...

Regards,

Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />

Is it my imagination, or is lot # 2346 wearing Krieghoff grips?

Hi Doc,

Lugers I saw are :

# 2346, 2347, 2348, 2380, 2757, 2761, and 2767...there might be a couple more I missed...

I'll be at the Preview Day on Friday at 10:30 or so...if you come, I will buy ya some coffee...

Hi John,

I will take a closer look at # 2346 in person tomorrow...the checkering looks to big for Ritzmann grips and the grips look a bit different than the brown Mauser type HK grips...dunno...

Regards,

Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />

Just got back from the G-M auction preview day in SF...

Luger # 2346 was indeed sporting a pair of good condition Ritzmann HK grips.

Most of the dozen or so lugers were pretty tired and worn. None piquing my interest...

Saw some nice PP's, PPK's, and a few p-38's...

Every gun that came with a holster (lugers and others) were stored in the holster. I guess this allowed more display table space.

But I sure would be mad if I had a gun at the auction...everytime a prospective bidder wanted to look over the piece...out and into the holster it goes. I can see many of the guns being cycled into the leather at least 100-300 times this weekend. Imagine your piece not selling, coming back to your home with a heck of a lot more holster wear ?

Do not know what the auction folks are thinking, here..

Many guns very close to each other on the tables and in the racks. Heard lots of metal-to-metal "clinking" noises as I walked the showroom floor...

Regards,

Pete... <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />

Pete, thanks for the clarification and details. It seems to me that many more desirable Lugers are ending up on the Rock Island Auction. Maybe that's why the gavel premium is higher.
