Luger Holster

Simpson LTD has a Heiser western style 1722 holster. The Heiser lists say this is for a 3 3/4 bbl post war commercial Luger.

Just a heads up. I am tempted but to much going on.

...???...Was there ever really such a thing??? A 95mm barrel??? Measured from breech face???

Could you post a pic of the holster, or a link??? Or of a 95mm barreled Luger...

You do know that 3 5/8" is even shorter than 3 3/4" right??? 98mm is about 3 7/8", which is about what a 7.65mm Luger would be, approximately (damn Metric system!)

I had thought that it was maybe for a hitherto unknown variation, or prototype, or feasibility study, or ultra-rare pocket Luger...

Several members here have 'Baby Lugers' but I've never seen a Baby Luger holster...Seems like one would have been custom made, considering some of the members here being leather-workers...A full-flapped military style Baby holster would be cool...

But that Simpson holster looks too big for even a 98mm Luger...More like a full-size P08...

That Heiser page should be taken with a grain of salt...3 5/8" is ~92mm...

(I get excited when I see a post about a weird Luger, or Mauser, or Nambu...Like that C96 Broomhandle that some smith had grafted a Colt single-action revolver grip on...)

I'd bet that the holsters were made to fit specific, actual configurations regardless of dimensions printed/listed by sales/marketing people. My impression is that they are nominal--an example of which is known as the 2" X 4"

It is the right length. Stoeger is reputed to have imported 7.65 Lugers in barrel lengths for 75 mm (3 inches) to 600 mm, about 24 inches (wikipedia}

My commercial 1920 has a 3 7/8 (98 mm plus).

Have all the fun you want but there is the Heiser 1772 and it is a Luger holster, if you go to that Heiser Website it does show one in the holster. It is a good fit

Jan Still's Weimar Lugers notes 3 5/8 or 3 3/4 barrel lengths as most common for 1920, for the alphabet commercial most are 3 5/8 inch barrels. Still says Stoeger Lugers had 3 5/8, 4, 6, and 8 inch barrels. I believe the longer barrels reported on Wikipedia above are Pacific Arms import barrels

1929 Commercial are usually found with 3 3/4 barrels, Some are Stoegers [Jan Still, Weimar Lugers p258]

Getting back to Heiser holsters. I collect early American made holsters for the Imperial Navy Luger (15cm barrel length, close to 6"0) and Heisers are a particular favorite of mine. Here is one of mine.

Sheepherder, no problem. I am probably orler and grumpier than you. was born during WW2.

John James told me years ago that holsters during the alphabet commercial year tend to be built to accommodate 4 or 5 inch barrels. A 5 inch would handle 4 3/4 Swiss style and early 7.65 models. A 4 inch would handle the various <100 mm lengths. There were an erratic range of barrels. Mine, 3992 I has a 3 7/8 barrel. And I do know how to measure a barrel and that was with a calibrated caiiper.

I owned a Heiser that would accommodate up to a 4 3/4 bbl. Hot sure the markings were not fake.

The commercial Lugers are a fascinating sub-species and the alphabet Lugers exhibit very fine craftsmanship in general and a subtle bunch of weird variations.

I'd say no. I also think that holster makers, like gun manufacturers will state a size, but it fits slightly shorter and slightly longer.

My thought is that there are subtle variations in the barrel length from the factory (small variations, but easily measured).

However, this specific model and Heiser catalog (where do I see the catalog?) is very cool.

Sheepherder. Not a trials holster, although it could accept that Barrel length, it is stamped Abercrombie and Fitch on the front flap. The one photo shows my alphabet commercial. You can see it has the very sharp barrel band that at one time we thought meant they were replacement barrels. I think they would be better described as alternate barrels, meaning they are produced outside of the DWM production line and mounted by DWM an a DWM frame.

El Paso Saddleray...Saddlery...Holsters still makes a repro - I thought of buying one to display my 1900AE but never got around to it...

I can't recall the consensus of opinion on them...

El Paso makes a very fine holster. I have a couple for other guns. Very nice.

I have had a couple of ElPaso holsters and they were very nice production holsters with good quality leather. I have tried getting in touch with them over the last four months and they do not answer their emails or their phone.
