Inserting a take down lever spring

Can someone tell me for the take down lever spring; for the bent part, does it go to the left or right and does it point up or down? I have lots of discussion but don't know where to begin.

The positioning so far seems to be to place it to the left, standing on the point with the bent end pointing to the right. Sort of forming the letter "F" with the middle cross piece missing. Am I getting close? Will it help to keep it in place (after I get it in there) by putting some grease on it? And that also will allow for easier fitting of the two pieces to each other?? Would appreciate some help with this rascal.

The smaller leg needs to drop down into the hole you will see on the bottom of the frame ahead of the trigger guard. The hole is bored clear through the frame, so you can use this as a guide as to where it is located internally. Don't use grease, but light oil to start. Grease has enough mass to prevent the spring from seating properly in its cut. Once it is installed, then grease can be used to help get it all back together.

This is a carbine and has a connecting bar blocking the view of the underside of the trigger guard. Now what?

The hole is on the left side of the frame. Try and slide the spring in from the right side with the small leg forward. Slide it along the groove until you can work the small leg down into the hole, which will be at the end of the groove, closest to where the TD lever will pivot.
